McCarthys was appointed by Birmingham Metropolitan as principal contractor to deliver a programme of refurbishment works within a live educational environment. The project encompassed both internal and external works running concurrently, requiring careful coordination to minimise disruption to ongoing teaching activities across the campus.

The internal works comprised a complete refresh of classroom and communal spaces across five floors of the main building, as well as several satellite buildings also on the campus. External works included comprehensive asbestos removal, installation of over 200 windows and doors, re-covering of flat roofs with replacement roof lights, temporary removal to facilitate roof works then reinstatement of ventilation services, service road re-surfacing and aesthetic enhancements to existing structures.

Outcomes:

  • High-quality refurbishment delivered with minimal disruption to teaching
  • Creation of safe, modern, and functional learning environments for students and staff
  • Successful coordination of complex internal and external works within a live educational setting

Great teamwork all around – proof that top teams don’t just make the dream work, they smash it! Everyone pulled their own oar with strength and unity, steering us exactly where we needed to be. Huge thanks to the whole crew!
