McCarthys was appointed for the construction of a new standalone Sixth Form Annexe at Queen Mary Grammar School in Walsall — designed to provide a dedicated space for independent student learning.

The project comprised the full construction of a single-storey building featuring a large open-plan study area, two offices, toilet facilities, and a plant room. Installation works included piled foundations, a structural steel frame, composite cladding roof system, and masonry cavity wall construction finished with a high-quality render system. The scheme also incorporated double-glazed aluminium windows and doors, connection of new drainage systems to existing foul and storm networks, relocation of the school’s existing tiered seating system, and completion of associated external landscaping.

Outcomes:

  • Delivery of a contemporary space that enhances the learning provision
  • Improved functionality for students and staff
  • Successful integration of new infrastructure with existing campus facilities

From the outset, McCarthys demonstrated a positive commitment to working with ourselves and the school. McCarthy was able to meet the clients extremely tight budget via tabling a negotiated package that still delivered on all the core requirements. The team’s ability to adhere to the tight schedule and manage the complexities of the site did not go unnoticed.
